Soul and funk band from Austin, Texas, Mingo Fishtrap, is made up of Roger Blevins Jr. on Guitar/Lead Vocals, Chip Vayenas on Drums/Vocals, Dane Farnsworth on Organ/Keyboard, Roger Blevins Sr. on Bass, Steve Butts on Trumpet, and Dan Bechdolt on Tenor Saxophone. With their first album releasing in 1997 and now having a total of six albums, Mingo offers a representation of how you are never too old to be a lover of music and perform like you're young. Inspired by country, rock, jazz, R&B, and pop, Mingo never defines themselves under a specific genre, but what kind of music inspires them to keep on playing.
I spoke with Roger Blevins Jr. about how Mingo has made efforts to stay traditional and change their methods to achieve a balance between authentic and financial success.
